Clearview Neigborhood Association Update
I wanted to let you all know about a couple of things going on in our neighborhood and with our group.
There have been a number of crimes in the area in the past few weeks. There have been several break-ins, some vandalism and a report of shots fired at a party on Eagle Pass. It is important that if you hear of a crime on your street that you let us know about it. We often find out about these things long after they have happened and it makes it more difficult for us to discuss these problems with police. If you are a victim of crime or know of a crime that happened on your street, please let us know by e-mailing us or calling our crimewatch coordinator Dan Lambeth at 972-633-0408.
We are working on holding a Home Security Seminar in the near future to discuss ways we can all help to make our neighborhood safer. We have also added a link on clearviewplano.org to a website that tracks crime reported in our area. It is fairly detailed, but does not list specific addresses. You can go to it here.
We are also planning to do an event for National Night Out in the park on Tuesday, October 7th. We will have more information on this event a little later.
Second, the park improvements that the city had planned for Clearview park are being delayed. As I mentioned in an earlier update the city is running a $17 million deficit this year and expects to have even more shortfalls over the next few years. To help close the gap, the city cut the parks department budget in half. This left no money to start our project this fall. Therefore, the parks department will put our project into a bond issue in May of next year. If it passes, we should see the park improvements take place in the fall of 2009. We will find out more information on this bond issue a little later this year and early in 2009.
We will do our first park cleanup project on Saturday, August 23rd starting a 10am. We'll meet at the park pavilion. Bring some garbage bags, rakes, shovels and any other cleaning material you can. I'll provide some cold drinks and snacks. I hope to take only about an hour to go over the entire park. It should be something kids and adults alike can do!
We are planning to hold our annual membership meeting on Saturday, September 20th at 10am in the park pavilion.
There is a traffic issue that will effect many of us over the next two years. The Texas Department of Transporation (TxDOT) will be reconstructing the Parker Road bridge over US 75 (Central Expressway.) The first part of this project is already underway as contractors move power poles on the southeast side of this site back a few feet. (this is right in front of the Best Buy) The $20 million dollar project will take about 25 months to complete. It will cut down on the number of lanes open and require the roads to be closed a few times. However, TXDOT says they will always have at least one lane of Parker open at all times while this project is going on. The bridge should be completed around September of 2010. TxDOT has graciously allowed me to post two drawings from Jacobs, Inc. showing what the completed bridge will look like. You can find them here.
Many of you have questioned what can be done about the leaning wall behind Buffalo Bend. The city replace most of that wall a year or so ago, but part of the old concrete wall remains. That is because that part of the wall is behind the shopping center at Spring Creek and Alma. Unfortunately, the city has no say in getting that part of the wall replaced. We are working on talking to the owners of the shopping center to see if there is anything they can do about it. We will keep you posted.
Finally, I also wanted to make you aware that the PISD had recently evaluated whether to go ahead with an expansion of the Pearson Early Childhood School that is in the middle of our neighborhood. They have decided against it because they are realigning some attendance zones and don't think they'll need the extra space there yet. It is still a possibility in the future, but is currently not under consideration.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions or comments. You can contact me at chairman@clearviewplano.org
Thank you,
Arnold Evans
